The Rhode Island Senate race is getting interesting. I saw this in an article a year ago- given what Jill told me about how the National GOP is spending money on defending Chafee, it's interesting that this important and powerful Right Wing group is out there supporting Laffey. The word the National GOP is putting out on the street in DC is Laffey is a nut case. Which is what they say about anyone they want to defeat.
Here is some history: Club for Growth is an organization dedicated to electing right wing members to the House and Senate and targets Republicans who they see as too moderate in primary races.
The Author of this piece is Pat Toomey, who nearly unseated Sen. Arlen Spector 51/49 in 2002.
From their own web site the stated goals of CFG are:
The Club for Growth is a national network of over 30,000 men and women, from all walks of life, who believe that prosperity and opportunity come through economic freedom.
The Club for Growth exists to encourage, and make possible, the enactment of pro-growth economic policies by the federal government. The primary tactic of the Club for Growth PAC has been to provide financial support from Club members to viable pro-growth candidates to Congress, particularly in Republican primaries.
Club for Growth Policy Goals:
* Making the Bush tax cuts permanent
* Death tax repeal
* Cutting and limiting government spending
* Social Security reform with personal retirement accounts
* Expanding free trade
* Legal reform to end abusive lawsuits
* Replacing the current tax code
* School choice
* Regulatory reform and deregulation
